PETALING JAYA: Live updates of nomination day of the 2011 Sarawak Election.
12.10pm: Padungan - Objection against independent Dominique Ng is rejected. Three corner fight confirmed - Sim Kiang Chiok (SUPP), Wong King Wei (DAP)and Ng.
11.45am: Balingan - Incumbent and CM Tan Sri Taib Mahmud (PBB) in three-cornered contest with ex-deputy education minister Salleh Jafarudin (Independent) and Suriati Abdullah (PKR).
Miri - All three state seats to see straight fights. In Piasau, it is BN's Tan Sri Dr George Chan vs DAP's Ling Sie Kiong. In Senadin, BN's Datuk Lee Kim Shin vs PKR's Dr Teo Yu Keng. In Pujut, BN's Andy Chia Chu Fatt vs DAP Fong Pau Teck.
Tasik Biru - BN's Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie, PKR's Datuk John Tenewi Nuek and SNAP's Frankie Jurem Nyumboi are the contestants.
Lawas - Straight fight for Ba' Kelalan seat, with Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian taking on his nephew Willie Liau.
11.15am: Bawang Assan - Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh (SUPP) and Alice Lau (DAP) in straight fight.
Dalat - Incumbent Datin Fatimah Abdullah (BN) in three-cornered contest against PKR's Sylvester Ajah Subah and Independent Salleh Mahli.
Satok - Straight fight between Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg (BN) and Ahmad Nazib Johari (PKR).
11.10am: Tupong - Straight fight between Barisan's Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman and PKR Baharuddin @ Din Shah Mokhsen. No objections from any party.
11.05am: Kuching - Viewing and public objection period over for Padungan, Pending and Batu Lintang.
10.55am: Kuching - Padungan and Batu Lintang set for three-cornered fights. In Padungan, DAP's Wong King Wei will take on SUPP's Sim Kiang Chiok and Independent Dominique Ng. In Batu Lintang, Independent Soo Lina, believed to be close to Ng, takes on SUPP's Sih Hua tong and PKR's See Chee How. Pending will see cardiologist Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian (SUPP) take on incumbent Violet Yong (DAP).
An election observer, B.K Ong raised a complaint that the nomination lists were displayed too far away from the public, thereby denying voters the right to raise objections.
10.30am: Mukah - PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has arrived and is having breakfast at Mukah waterfront.
Kuching - Supporters from both sides appear to have exhausted their slogans and chants. Both sides alternating between political jeering and football chants of "Ole, Ole, Ole!" and crack up laughing.
10.20am: Tasik Biru - PKR supporters claim they have spotted mistakes in the nomination forms of Barisan and SNAP candidates. They have submitted objections to the returning officer.
Lawas - Only two candidates, Willie Liau and Baru Bian, have submitted nomination papers for the Ba'Kelalan constituency.
10.15am: Nominations closed at 10am, objection period until 11am.
Mukah - Balingian incumbent Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud will face PKR's Suriati Abdullah and Independent Datuk Salleh Jafaruddin. All is calm at nomination centre.
Batu Kawah - Straight fight between SUPP's Tan Joo Phoi and DAP's Christina Chiew.
Bawang Assan - Only Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh (SUPP) and Alice Lau (DAP) filed papers.
Tupong - Barisan's Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman and PKR's Baharuddin @ Din Shah Mokhsen have been accepted. Shouts and chants among supporters but situation under control. Heavy police presence around nomination centre.
Bukit Sari - Barisan incumbent Awang Tengah Ali Hassan and PKR's Japar Suyut only ones to file papers.
Kota Sentosa - Independent candidate Tay Wei Wei's papers rejected as his proposer is not a registered voter in the constituency.
9.45am Mukah - Balingian incumbent, CM Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, arrived with thousands of supporters half an hour ago, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Sabah CM Musa Aman, Mukah MP Datuk Seri Dr Muhamad Leo Michael Toyad and Taib' wife Puan Sri Ragad Alkurdi Taib.
Taib later entered the nomination centre with his proposer and seconder.
PKR candidate Suriati Abdullah arrived about 15 minutes ago with 20 supporters.
Miri - SUPP president Tan Sri Dr George Chan, the Barisan candidate for Piasau and his DAP challenger, Ling Sie Kiong have filed their nomination papers.
Kota Sentosa - Independent candidate Tay Wei Wei has filed his papers.
Batu Lintang - Independent candidate Soo Li Na has filed her papers.
Kuching - Lina Soo, a PKR member believed to be closed to dropped Padungan incumbent Dominique Ng, has registered herself as a candidate for Batu Kawah.
Satok - PBB deputy president Datuk Abang Johari Tun Openg (BN) and Ahmad Nazib Johari (PKR) have submitted their nomination papers.
9.30am: Kota Sentosa - Only 100 supporters from each side allowed to enter nomination centre. The rest are waiting outside patiently with flags and banners.
9.20am: Betong - Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, accompanied by Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussin, inside the nomination centre after a sweaty tour around the town centre with hundreds of supporters earlier.
9.15am: Kuching - Independent Dominique Ng arrives with about 20 supports. His team has newly printed material bearing Ng's face and a hibiscus for his logo.
Bengoh - Barisan candidate Dr Jerip Susil has filed his nomination paper.
Tasik Biru - SNAP candidate Frank Jurem Nyumboi files his papers.
Bukit Assek - Independent Hii Tiong Huat files his papers without his proposer and seconder present.
9.05am: Kota Sentosa - DAP candidate Chong Chieng Jen files his nomination papers. He is proposed by Hiu Kuan Fah and seconded by Tan Kay Chee.
Batu Kawah - DAP candidate Christina Chiew enters nomination centre to submit her form.
Tasik Biru - Barisan candidate Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie files nomination papers.
9.00am: Bengoh - PKR candidate Willie Mongin has filed his nomination papers.
8.45am: Sibu - An estimated 80 police officers deployed to monitor security at the Civic Centre, where Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh (SUPP) and state DAP Wanita chief Alice Lau are expected to submit their nomination forms for the Bawang Assan seat.
Miri - SUPP president Tan Sri Dr George Chan arrives at Civic Centre with Barisan leaders Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Datuk Raja Nong Cik Raja Zainal Abidin, Datuk Seri Peter Chin and others. Supporters not allowed to enter en masse due to stricter election rules.
Kota Sentosa - Barisan candidate Datuk Alfred Yap has arrived at the nomination centre with large crowd of supporters.
Bengoh - About 100 PKR supporters marching to the nomination centre at Siburan agriculture office. SNAP candidate Richard @ Peter Munai, accompanied by about 50 supporters also arrive at nomination centre.
Tasik Biru - SNAP candidate Frankie Jurem Nyombui and a small group of supporters arrive at nomination centre led by a man dressed in a Shaolin costume wearing a mask. They are told to wait outside till the centre opens.
8.30am: Kota Sentosa - heavy police presence at nomination centre. Roadblocks causing traffic jam.
Bukit Sari - Cloudy skies as Barisan and PKR supporters gather in parts of Lawas town before walking 2km to sports stadium. About 20 flag-carrying PKR supporters with candidate arrive at the nomination centre grounds.
Dudong - At least three candidates will be contesting. Independent Apandi Abdul Rani, 56, was the first to arrive at the nomination centre at 8.15am.
Buki Assek - DAP incumbent Wong Ho Leng had an early meeting with supporters at Jalan Tunku Osman before proceeding to the nomination centre. SUPP's Chieng Buong Toon and supporters, meanwhile, will gather at the Samling building, 50m away from nomination centre. Independent Hii Tiong Huat will walk from his home to the centre, some 200m away.
Lawas - PKR supporters have arrived at the District Council office. Led by party adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahi, the 200-odd sopporters chanted "Hidup Reformasi!"
Kuching - A DAP group with flags and its 'Ubah' hornbill mascots are marching quietly to Kuching City South Council. Tony Pua is heading the group, which also includes Padungan candidate Wong King Wei and Pending incumbent Violet Yong.
8.15am: In Tasik Biru, around 40 police personnel have gathered in front of the nomination centre at Bau Civic Centre even before the arrival of candidates and supporters.
Penang CM Lim Guan Eng arrives at kai hung cafe for a breakfast before accompanying batu kawah candidate christina chiew to the nomination centre.
8.10am: SUPP and DAP supporters have begun gathering at Kuching City South Council, the nomination centre for Padungan, Batu Lintang and Pending. Last minute pep talks are bring given by candidates like SUPP's Sim Kiang Chiok, for Padungan supporters. So far, no sign of independent Dominique Ng, who quit PKR Tuesday.

8.00am: A wet and gloomy day in the Barisan Nasional fortress of Miri. SUPP president Tan Sri Dr Geoge Chan and other Barisan leaders kicked off their preparations with breakfast in his house at Luak Bay at 7am.
DAP leaders and supporters started gathering at a open air car park at 7.30am.
7.30am: Independent candidate and former deputy education minister Datuk Salleh Jafaruddin arrived at the Mukah Civic Centre at 7.20am.
Salleh, 67, was accompanied by his proposer, also former deputy education minister Datuk Bujang Ulis, his wife Datin Sharifah Hajijah Syed Jamil and two others.
Salleh, asked why he came even before all the officials were ready he said: "I thought early bird catches more worms."
Salleh apparently thought nomination started at 8am.
Mukah-born Salleh is one of the two candidates expected to contest against Balingian incumbent and his cousin, Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
KUCHING: It is nomination day for the 2011 Sarawak Election and at least 200 aspiring candidates are expected to submit their forms Wednesday. At stake are 71 seats.
The highest number of candidates will be from Barisan Nasional, which will contest in all 71 seats (PBB, 35; SUPP, 19; PRS, nine; SPDP, eight).
As for Pakatan Rakyat, PKR will vie for 48 seats, DAP 15 and PAS five.
SNAP, which failed to reach a compromise with PKR, has announced that it will contest in about 30 seats.
Parti Cinta Malaysia will contest in 10 while the yet-to-be-registered Parti Ekonomi Rakyat Sarawak Bersatu will go for 17 seats by fielding independents. At least a dozen more independent candidates are also expected to join the fray.
Expected are at least 37 straight fights, 27 three-cornered fights and seven four-cornered fights with 183 candidates confirmed by the Barisan and the opposition parties so far.
In the 2006 election, there were 158 candidates, comprising 71 from Barisan, 12 from DAP, one from PAS, 25 from PKR, 29 from SNAP and 20 independents.
There were 54 straight fights, 13 three-cornered fights, one four-cornered fight and one five-cornered fight. Barisan candidates won uncontested in Daro and Dalat.
A total of 71 nomination centres at 69 venues comprising school halls, council buildings, libraries and civic centres will be opened at 9am Wednesday.
