Dato' Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui : Retired

Chin to step down as SUPP organising secretary

Posted on July 26, 2011, Tuesday

KUCHING: Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui confirmed yesterday that he would relinquish his post as organising secretary of SUPP during the party’s triennial delegates’ conference end of this year.

“I will not hold on to that post. However, I will continue at branch level,” said the SUPP Bekenu branch chairman.

On whether he would seek re-election in the 13th general election, the Miri MP said he had yet to make up his mind.

He was, however, quick to point out that there would be no shortage of capable successors should he decide to call it a day after the current term.

“I have not really given it a thought. When the right time comes, I will make a call. But following the recent spate of speculations on elections, I may announce some news soon. To be honest, many people have been working closely with me and if I do retire soon, a lot of young people can take over from me anytime. There isn’t any problem,” he told reporters after attending a function here yesterday.

Chin who is Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water has been Miri MP since 1990. His comrade, SUPP vice-president and five-time Stampin MP Datuk Yong Khoon Seng announced his decision not to seek re-election in the 13th general election some time last year. He presently holds the post of Deputy Minister of Works.

SUPP has five MPs. The others are Datuk Richard Riot Jaem (Serian), Ding Kuong Hiing (Sarikei) and Datuk Tiong Thai King (Lanang).
