“How many times has Anwar lied to us?

State leaders say the PKR de-facto leader is day dreaming, and always has been

KUCHING: PKR’s prediction that they can win at least 15 seats in Sarawak in the 13th general election has been described as nothing more than a ‘day dream’.

Chief Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said he was not surprised by PKR de-facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s grandiose boast because it is his (Anwar) worthless signature tune.

“How many times has Anwar lied to us? He is a day dreamer. After the
12th general election in 2008, Anwar mentioned that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) would form the government by Sept 16, 2008 as BN MPs would be joining them. In the end, nothing materialised.

“Before the recent state election, Anwar also claimed that PR would win and even endorsed Baru Bian (state PKR chairman) as the next Chief Minister. In the end, nothing materialised.

“This prediction that they would win 15 parliament seats is nothing new. It’s Anwar and his dreams again,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Abdul Karim, who is also Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) chairman, Asajaya assemblyman and PBB Supreme Council member, was asked to comment on Anwar’s latest remarks when he came here last weekend.

During a gathering with PKR members and supporters from the Bidayuh community at a restaurant in Siburan last Saturday, Anwar said PKR would be committed towards winning at least 15 seats in Sarawak in its quest to enable PR to form the next government.

Anwar said the figure included the predominantly-Bidayuh constituency of Mambong.

“If we can win 15 seats in Sarawak, it will be a ‘home run’ for us (to win the election). That is why we must win in Mambong and in the other urban and rural areas.”

The gathering took place for about two hours, before Anwar left for two more functions in Kuching. Also present were PKR national vice president Datuk John Tenewi Nuek, Baru and state PKR information chief See Chee How.

Presently, PKR does not have any parliamentary seat in Sarawak. In the 10th state election, they contested in 49 seats and won three.

Meanwhile, PBB vice president Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman, who echoed Abdul Karim’s sentiments, said Anwar was “still in dreamland”.

He pointed out that PKR also spoke with a similar air of arrogance before the April 16 state polls when it predicted that it could romp home with 40 seats.

“In the last state election he (Anwar) said PKR could win 40 seats but you see what had happened,” said the Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) and Tupong assemblyman.
