KUCHING: State police commissioner Dato Mohmad Salleh said the security situation here is calm, unlike in the peninsula which is gripped by the highly-publicised Bersih 2.0 rally.

“Everything here is well under control,” he said on Tuesday when asked by reporters to comment on the situation here in relation to the July 9 rally.

Salleh, who had earlier closed the Sarawak contingent-level Al-Quran recital competition, confirmed that thus far only state PKR Youth secretary Zulhaidah Suboh had been arrested in connection with the rally.

She will be under remand until tomorrow to facilitate investigation.

Zulhaidah, who was wearing a yellow T-shirt and with the word ‘Bersih 2.0’ printed on it, was detained at the Miri Airport last Monday.

Salleh advised members of the public to stay away from any unlawful assembly which is organised in support of Bersih 2.0 as stern action would be taken against them.
It is understood that the opposition planned to hold rallies in all major towns throughout the country this Saturday in support of Bersih 2.0.
