MIRI: Three-term Lambir assemblyman Datuk Aidan Wing, 56, will not defend his seat in the coming 10th Sarawak state election.
“I am not seeking re-nomination in the forthcoming Sarawak election to give way to younger ‘wakil rakyat’ from PBB,” Aidan said in a choked voice during a press conference at Hornbill Skyway’s office at Miri Airport Road yesterday.
Also present was Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang.
The press conference was held upon Aidan’s return from a working trip to Sungai Dalam, Lambir. He said his decision not to seek re-election has been endorsed by the top leadership at the state and federal level.
“I thank the chief minister for giving me the chance to serve the people of Lambir,” he said.
Aidan said he wished his successor in Lambir all the best, and that he would continue to support the party and the ruling coalition. On the reason for his sudden decision, Aidan said: “I can’t clarify with you about my decision.”
In the 2006 state election, Aidan, who stood on a BN ticket, defeated Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) Saji Samat by a majority of 2,834 votes.
Aidan, who has been Lambir assemblyman since 1996, said he would continue as PBB supreme council member and Lambir PBB chairman until PBB’s next congress in 2013, after which he would give up the two posts.
