MIRI: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed yesterday between the Public Works Department and contractor Pekerjaan Piasau Konkerit Sdn Bhd for the improvement of Pujut 7 road.
Phase one of the project will be upgrading of Pujut 7/Tudan Road which includes converting the existing Pujut roundabout into a traffic light junction and construction of a new 150m parallel bridge.
Phase 2 will be the upgrading of Tudan/Kuala Baram Road and will include improvement of five existing junctions with traffic signals, the provision of one new roundabout and refurbishing of 11.2km of existing roads.
The project, costing some RM115.5 million, is expected to start in April this year and is scheduled to be completed on April 10, 2013.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Piasau incumbent Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan. Signing on behalf of the department was state director Datuk Hubert Thian Chong Hui while Pekerjaan Piasau Konkerit was represented by its director Tan Sri Ling Chiong Ho.
Also present were Senadin and Pujut incumbents Datuk Lee Kim Shin and Andy Chia and Miri Resident Antonio Khati Galis.
Dr Chan disclosed that the project would ease traffic flow in the area particularly during peak hours in the morning and the evening.
