PUSAT BANDAR, 21 November — Bekas pengerusi Parti Rakyat Bersatu Sarawak (SUPP) cawangan Piasau, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. George Chan Hong Nam tidak akan membayangi ahli jawatankuasa yang baru dipilih atau melibatkan diri dalam apa jua keputusan berkaitan parti itu.
“Saya menaruh kepercayaan sepenuhnya kepada krediabiliti dan keupayaan ahli-ahli jawatankuasa yang kebanyakkan terdiri daripada muka baru”, katanya selepas mempengerusikan mesyuarat jawatankuasa SUPP peringkat cawangan Piasau di Hotel Mega malam tadi.
Dr Chan yang juga presiden parti memberitahu, malah muka baru ini mempunyai idea yang lebih segar dan bernas serta mempunyai tenaga yang mantap untuk mengemudikan parti di peringkat cawangan.
Dato’ Sebastian Ting memenangi undi untuk memegang jawatan sebagai pengerusi SUPP cawangan Piasau, manakala Hii King Chong pula dicadangkan untuk menjadi timbalan pengerusi.
“Saya percaya, kumpulan baru pimpinan Ting dan Hii ini mampu membawa parti ke tahap pencapaian yang lebih cemerlang berbanding semasa saya masih menjadi pengerusi,” katanya.
Mengulas pemilihan peringkat cawangan, Chan tidak menafikan ia persaingan yang sengit dan mencabar antara Ting dan Hii, yang mana Ting berjaya memperolehi 4 undi majoriti mengatasi Hii.
“Pemilihan peringkat cawangan sudahpun berakhir, saya berharap kumpulan yang bersaing sebelum ini kembali bersatu hati sejajar dengan pegangan parti iaitu ‘Sa’ati’. Saya percaya Ting dan Hii dapat merealisasikan pembangunan pesat di bandar raya Miri,” katanya.
Chan, mengumumkan persaraan dari bidang politik selepas gagal mempertahankan kerusi Piasau kepada calon Parti Tindakan Rakyat (DAP) Alan Ling semasa Pilihan Raya Negeri (PRN).

SEBASTIAN TING RETAINS PIASAU SUPP CHAIRMAN
KUCHING: Not since the early years of SUPP have its members seen so much excitement and drama at their branch meetings.
For a party that has become accustomed to no-contest internal elections, the significance of the branch polls being held throughout the state yesterday was certainly felt by every member who turned up to cast his or her vote.
It was particularly intense in Piasau, where former deputy chief minister and outgoing SUPP president Tan Sri Dr George Chan has decided not to defend his chairman’s post.
The branch saw Datuk Sebastian Ting, the political secretary to SUPP presidential candidate Datuk Seri Peter Chin, locking horns with Sibu-born Hii King Chiong, the managing director of Kingwood Hotel group.
After almost postponing the election of the branch chairman, when several newly elected committee members became absent, the remaining committee members — after a show of hands — decided to go on with it at about 11.40pm.
Ting garnered 23 votes after a secret ballot to defeat Hii by four votes. After the polls, Hii was nominated for the deputy chairman’s post but he declined the nomination.
Ting had also tried to persuade him to change his mind but failed. At midnight, it was decided that the new chairman be allowed to decide his own office-bearers. With the two presidential aspirants Chin and Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh winning uncontested as the chairmen of Bekenu and Sibu branches respectively yesterday, Piasau’s polls result became even more important in deciding who SUPP’s next president could be.
Chin and Wong will face off during the SUPP triennial delegates’ conference here on Dec 10 and 12 in what would be the ailing party’s watershed event.
In Kuching, Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian scored high to win the Pending branch chairman’s post despite an uproar earlier on involving the distribution of candidates’ list by those said to be allied to him.
Dr Sim, however, insisted after his victory, that he belonged to no team and was ready to work with anyone, while in nearby Kota Sentosa, Datuk Alfred Yap continues to rule the roost.

PUSAT BANDAR, 21 November — Dato’ Sebastian Ting menang sebagai pengerusi Parti Rakyat Bersatu Sarawak (SUPP) cawangan Piasau selepas menewaskan usahawan Hii King Chiong dalam mesyuarat agung tiga tahun sekali parti di sini malam tadi.
Ting yang juga Setiausaha Politik kepada Menteri Tenaga, Teknologi Hijau dan Air sebelum ini merupakan timbalan pengerusi SUPP cawangan Piasau menggantikan bekas pengerusi, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam.
Sejurus selepas diumumkan sebagai pengerusi, Ting mencadangkan Hii sebagai timbalan pengerusi, namun Hii menolak.
Seramai 805 ahli parti turun mengundi bagi memilih ahli jawatankuasa cawangan dan delegasi untuk penggal 2012 hingga 2014. Cawangan Piasau mempunyai 3,481 dan pertandingan kali ini menyaksikan persaingan yang sengit.
Dalam pada itu, Keith Chin dan Suzanne Lee masing-masing dipilih sebagai Ketua Pemuda dan Ketua Wanita untuk SUPP cawangan Piasau.
Ting ketika ditemui berkata, beliau akan bertemu dengan Hii dalam tempoh minggu ini bagi membincangkan jawatan timbalan pengerusi.
“Saya akan berjumpa dan memujuk beliau untuk mempertimbangkan jawatan sebagai timbalan saya. Selain itu, kami akan berbincang mengenai barisan ahli jawatankuasa parti yang baharu.”
“Saya berharap Hii dapat mempertimbangkan jawatan itu. Apa yang penting, semua ahli adri kedua-dua kumpulan dapat bekerjasama dan bersatu hati,” katanya yang bersemangat untuk mendekati ahli-ahli dari kumpulan Hii.
Beliau turut berterima kasih dengan ahli-ahli yang turun mengundi sekaligus membuktikan cinta mereka terhadap parti.
Mengenai pertandingan sengit kali ini, Ting berkata undi tersebut menghantar mesej yang amat penting iaitu semangat bekerjasama di samping mempersiapkan mereka untuk menghadapi Pilihan Raya Umum (PRU) akan datang.
“Ini merupakan pertandingan yang pertama dan amat sengit, namun saya gembira kerana proses berjalan lancar dari mula sampai akhir. Semua ahli cukup matang dan terkawal.”
Dalam pada itu, Ting mengakui beliau kini mengalas cabaran yang berat untuk meneruskan tanggungjawab sebagai pengerusi menggantikan Chan.
“Di hadapan saya terbentang jalan yang berliku dan mencabar. Bukan senang, namun jalan tersebut sudah ada, apa yang penting kami sekarang perlu meneruskan kerjasama dengan sokongan semua ahli dan rakyat. Saya pasti semangat ini dapat membantu kami untuk mengharunginya.”
Hii ketika ditemui berkata, beliau mengucapkan tahniah kepada Ting dan berharap dapat menjalankan tanggungjawab sebagai pengerusi dengan baik.

（本报美里20日讯）北砂地区令人引颈期盼的人联党卑尔骚支部改选，经过马拉松式的激烈竞争后，最终在复选中，陈超耀以23票比19票些微差距胜出，顺利坐上卑尔骚支部主席职位。
决定支部主席的执委票数，许庆璋取得369票，顺利进入执委名单之列，陈超耀也以352票进入执委榜内。在中选执委名单中，有23个人为陈系团队名单中的人马，也意味着，许系人马约为20人。
历经近13小时的选举终于于11时45分来到最关键的复选，必须由执委选出主席、署理主席、秘书、财政、组织秘书、宣教秘书6个职位。
由于当选的45名执委中，其中3人不在现场，必须由现场42人选出支部主席，最终陈超耀获得23票，以些许微差数险胜对手许庆璋，顺利当选支部主席。
陈超耀随即提议由许庆璋担任署理主席，获得卡兰比星附议，惟遭到许庆璋拒绝。
另外，许系人马也表示拒绝担任任何职位，团队则交由超耀自己组织，他们只担任执委。

陈超耀提名风波 华贵:中央选委会裁决合理

(本报美里17日讯）砂人联党中央选举委员会(CENTRAL ELECTION COMMITEE）是由党中央最高领导层，即常务委员会（CWC）之前一致决定，成立以监督各支部和分部提名及选举的最高机构。
陈华贵今日针对仍有一小撮党领袖，对陈超耀上诉得直，成功恢复卑尔骚支部选举权，感到质疑，而作出解释
。
他说，既然这是监督党选举的最高机构，且也是常务委员会已一致通过成立的最高监督选举单位，因此由该选举委员去处理和作出最后裁决，并无不妥。
"何况各支部选举在即，如果有支部选举小组就一些候选人问题，无法作出裁决，交由党中央选举委员会去决定，是正确做法。毕竟如果各支部有面对选举的问题， 还要等到召开常务委员会去商讨和寻求解决方案，将面对时间紧迫限制。事实上，中央选举委员是常务委员会决定的选举监督最高权利的机构。"
陈华贵举例，这就好像举行州选时，一旦有关选区的选举官无法就一些选举问题作出裁决，他们必须向高层，即州选举官请示，并交由上层作出最后决定。

MIRI: Suzanne Lee Tze Ha has retained her post as head of the SUPP Piasau Women Section 2012-2014 during its triennial general meeting on Sunday.
She is assisted by Betty Pong Hon Kin (deputy chairperson), Lily Puk (first vice-chairperson), Hilda Voo Thien Fung (second vice-chairperson), Jessie Hong Chiew Keng (secretary), Yip Nyuk Chan (assistant secretary), Melinda Chan Choy Hung (treasurer) and Alice Fung Yee Ching (assistant treasurer).
The organising secretary is Yong Shui Yuon, Lau Ai Ing (assistant organising secretary), Tan Li Foong (publicity secretary), Annie Tiong Siew Hee (assistant publicity secretary), Susan Lau Su Kian (welfare) and Lai Yok Fong (assistant welfare).
Thirteen others are also elected to the new line-up. They are Yong Yok Min, Duri Usah, Bong Hiong Lan, Chan Chai Pin, Fong Yun Mei, Chia Siew Tow, Hu Hie Yieng, Ung Soon Khing, Law Siew Lian, Julie Ting Chek Ho, Magoeling Lacha Assan, Maureen Julin and Then Kong Yee.

MIRI, 16 November – Timbalan Pengerusi Parti Rakyat Bersatu Sarawak (SUPP) cawangan Piasau, Dato’ Sebastian Ting masih berahsia mengenai jawatan yang akan ditandinginya dalam pemilihan peringkat cawangan parti yang berlangsung pada 20 November ini.
“Apa posisi dalam parti? Jauh di sudut hati, saya tahu posisi yang harus saya pilih. Kebanyakkan ahli parti dan sahabat baik dalam parti mempunyai fikiran yang sama. Mereka harus tahu posisi yang akan saya ambil, jadi kami sebenarnya ada hubungan,” katanya semasa ditanya oleh media mengenai posisi yang akan ditandinginya hari ini.
Setakat ini, usahawan Hii Khing Chiong sudah menyatakan hasrat untuk bertanding bagi jawatan pengerusi SUPP cawangan Piasau bagi menggantikan pengerusinya, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam yang juga Presiden SUPP.
Ting yang juga Setiausaha Politik kepada Menteri Tenaga, teknologi Hijau dan Air, Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui dalam konteks ini menyeru ahli parti agar memberi sokongan dan kerjasama dengan menghadirkan diri semasa Persidangan Tiga Tahun Sekali (TDC) diikuti pemilihan yang akan diadakan di Hotel Mega mulai jam 10 pagi.
Terdahulu, seramai 20 ahli SUPP mewakili pelbagai cawangan datang ke pejabat SUPP dan membawa sepanduk bertulis ‘Sokong Kumpulan Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui’ untuk menyokong beliau dipilih sebagai presiden.
“Saya mewakili beliau (Chin) ingin mengucapkan terima kasih kepada ahli-ahli yang meluangkan masa untuk datang ke sini dan menyatakan sokongan. Kami amat menghargai sokongan yang tidak berbelah bagi ini.” katanya.
“Saya rasa terharu dengan sokongan yang diberikan tatkala kami menghadapi saat yang sukar pada masa ini. Mereka ini saya sifatkan benar-benar mencintai parti,” katanya.

擅自否定超耀参选资格 选举小组违背指示
（本报美里15日讯）砂人联党美里卑尔骚支部选举小组的三名成员罔顾卑尔骚支部选举小组主席兼党中央选举委员会主席拿督巴丁宜陈康南医生，以及秘书长拿督沈庆辉发出暂缓判决陈超耀转移卑尔骚支部党员籍的参选资格是否合格事宜，而擅自作出宣判。
砂人联党中央主席兼党中央选举委员会暨美里卑尔骚支部选举小组主席的拿督巴丁宜陈康南医生今日受访时，如斯指出。他说，他们（选举小组三人）在昨天宣布陈超耀无参选资格的决定，并非是由他（选举小组主席）或在他的授权情况下宣布的，因此，有关的宣判并不生效！
陈康南坦言，他们（三人）在昨日作出的宣判，且罔顾党中央发出2011年党选有参选资格的党员名册的合法性，便擅自否定了陈超耀的参选资格，已是越权挑战党中央所作出的决定。
他表示他在昨天接到电话询问后，亦还没有确认抗议者的身份和提呈的附属文件，并且他也对该抗议者在提出抗议陈超耀的参选资格，由始至终都没有在现场（卑尔骚支部）的情况亦表示纳闷。
“无论如何，针对该选举三人宣判陈超耀无参选资格，党中央选举委员会会尽快处理。”
询及目前诗巫、民丹莪、加拿逸和美里提名亦出现不少争议性的问题，陈康南表示，他相信媒体有过度渲染报导。而根据中央选举委员会接获的报告了解，其中许多问题可通过党章阐明的条文厘清。
一旦真的不幸出现连党章条规亦无法厘清或解决的问题，从而影响到年杪党代无法举行的话，他亦不排除中央选举委员会或有可能采取展延有关支部的选举。

人联卑尔骚支部改选选举委员会成员包括许聿全、李素霞、陈忻及陈超耀，在选举小组会议结束后，一同召开新闻发布会，向媒体宣布上述消息。 ■
美里（卑尔骚）支部选举委员会宣布中央指示，陈超耀申诉得直，重获提名竞选执委及党代资格。支部选举委员许聿全指出，今日的会议中讨论了关于选举相关细节，更重要的是，该小组也于今午3时29分收到人联党中央秘书长沈庆辉以传真方式发出的信函。
他透露，信中简短的指出，“根据陈超耀于11月14日提交的申诉，党中央选举委员会已做出决议，陈超耀所提交的美里（卑尔骚）支部执委及党代提名表格是正当及有效的，应该被支部选举委员会所接受。支部选举委员会依照指示执行上述决定。”
这也意味着，陈超耀的失格风波出现大逆转，重新获得提名资格，将可以顺利参与支部执委及党代竞选。
另两人也上诉得直
随 着陈超耀资格获得平反，昨日因同样因素被判定失格的蔡金忠及詹云洲也重新获得提名资格。由于选举委员会主席陈康南未出席，由选委代理主席陈超耀宣布，由于 昨日的投诉信函是针对自己，而因此连带影响另外2名提名者因相同条件失去资格，经选委会成员讨论后，认定上述2人也应该适用同样理由，恢复其提名资格。因 此，提名者蔡金忠及詹云洲也可以顺利参与本周日的支部选举。
由于昨日的失格风波出现大逆转，所有被判定出局者，重新恢复提名资格，因此，截至目前，卑尔骚支部改选将会有80人竞逐43个支委名额，47人竞争15个党代名额。
选委会成员许聿全指出，上述数字仍未必是最终竞选人数，因为，该支部仍开放提名者自动放弃，不过，该支部选委会决定，限定提名者必须最迟在本周五宣布放弃，否则逾时将不会受理。

砂人联党卑尔骚支部署理主席陈超耀今午在卑尔骚支部选举委员会公布重获提名资格后，接受媒体访问时，发表上述谈话。
他说，担任何职则由支部当选执委来决定，但是很确定自己有竞选支部要职的意愿，同时也清楚自己应担任什么职位。
他还说，这是人联党支部首次遇到选举的情况，对许多党员而言也是一种新的经验，希望在本月20日当天，拥有投票资格的党员可以踊跃前来投票，给新人一个机会，让他们可以成立新的领导层，来带领人联党前进。
他表示，人联党在416砂州选举中失去多个州席位，人联党在惨败后更需要党员的支持，才能壮大人联党，同时也能推动人联党的改革计划。
他表示，以上周日珠巴分部的投票率举例，珠巴分部的合格党员有1千594人，但是投票率仅有12.23%，获得的票数为195张，投票率偏低。
“希望在这周日的卑尔骚支部选举中，党员可以踊跃出来投票，卑尔骚支部拥有3千481名符合投票资格的党员，若超过2千名党员来投票，相信可以给新人很大的鼓舞。”

砂人联党卑尔骚支部署理主席陈超耀今午在卑尔骚支部选举委员会公布重获提名资格后，接受媒体访问时，发表上述谈话。
他说，担任何职则由支部当选执委来决定，但是很确定自己有竞选支部要职的意愿，同时也清楚自己应担任什么职位。
他还说，这是人联党支部首次遇到选举的情况，对许多党员而言也是一种新的经验，希望在本月20日当天，拥有投票资格的党员可以踊跃前来投票，给新人一个机会，让他们可以成立新的领导层，来带领人联党前进。
他表示，人联党在416砂州选举中失去多个州席位，人联党在惨败后更需要党员的支持，才能壮大人联党，同时也能推动人联党的改革计划。
他表示，以上周日珠巴分部的投票率举例，珠巴分部的合格党员有1千594人，但是投票率仅有12.23%，获得的票数为195张，投票率偏低。
“希望在这周日的卑尔骚支部选举中，党员可以踊跃出来投票，卑尔骚支部拥有3千481名符合投票资格的党员，若超过2千名党员来投票，相信可以给新人很大的鼓舞。”

POLITICIANS ARE NO LONGER THE MASTERS BUT SERVANTS OF THE RAKYAT

If politicians do not perform, they will be booted out by the same folk who voted them in. Period.
IT HAS been a very interesting week in Miri, where politicians from both sides of the political divide admitted that, in urban Sarawak, the term “political master” is no longer relevant.
This must be replaced with the more appropiate “political servant”.
There is now a realisation among Barisan Nasional and the Opposition that they can no longer expect the rakyat to look up to them and think of them as the “political master”, a term popularly used by the British colonialists.
Ordinary folk during those times had to bow to the orang putih and call them tuan.
That practice was passed down after independence, and widely used before the turn of the millennium.
Last Sunday, I had an interesting conversation with SUPP president and former Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr George Chan.
I also attended a dialogue between DAP, PKR and PAS.
Dr Chan had pulled me aside on Sunday night after I met him during a function and he said: “I heard you were threatened (by certain people) over what you wrote in your column.
“How can these people behave like that? I for one, will not encourage such tactics in SUPP.
“Politicians must realise that this sort of tactics do not work anymore. This sort of high-handed political culture is no longer relevant today.
“Politicians, and those aspiring to be politicians, cannot behave as if they are the masters of the rakyat anymore.
“We politicians are no longer the masters, we are the servants of the rakyat.
“The rakyat and the voters are not beholden to us, we are beholden to them.
“Don’t you ever allow yourself to be cowed by threats,” he went on.
Dr Chan discussed the latest political happenings in his party, and in the state and country, and said politicians could not talk down to ordinary folk anymore because the people who voted them in were the ones in charge, not the other way around.
“The sooner politicians realise this, the better.”
Dr Chan said the days of the people bowing to politicians were effectively over.
“Politicians now need to meet the aspiration of the rakyat. They are expected to solve the problems the rakyat bring to them.
“The office they hold is no longer a privileged position.
“Politicians hold office as the servants of the people. The people elect the politicians, thus the politicians are the servants,” he stressed.
He said SUPP politicians must concede to this new political reality in urban Sarawak if they wanted to last long in the public arena.
Interestingly, the Opposition also said the same thing.
Several leaders held a gathering with community representatives to discuss latest issues in society.
Piasau assemblyman Ling Sie Kiong discussed how he had a difficult time trying to meet the demands from the people in his constituency.
He said the people had bombarded him with all kinds of demands, asking him for cash handouts, squatter relocation land lots, electricity connections and even beer!
The people whom he met during his ground visits bluntly asked him what he could do for them and what he could give them.
“They don’t care whether I’m from DAP, they want to know what I could do for them.
“They have a lot of problems they want resolved. There are four big kampungs and squatter colonies in my constituency.
“Over the past few months, I have visited every house and every family I met asked how I could solve the problems they raised to me.
“We politicians have to sit down at the same level as the people and stand with them at the same level also,” he stressed.
Ling said DAP had always held the belief that the rakyat who voted them in were also the ones with the power to boot them out.
“So what if we become a wakil rakyat. If we cannot solve the people’s problems, they will boot us out.
“They give us five years (per term) to show our capability. If they are not happy with us, the same people who voted us in will vote us out.”
Indeed, Ling, 29, has learnt the new political realities very swiftly.
It was only a few months ago in April this year that he defeated Dr Chan in Piasau.
He is learning how tough it is to be a politician.
To his credit, he is not relaxing or sleeping on the job. He has been going around his constituency, meeting the people and looking into their needs.
It is of course, left to be seen how effectively he can resolve the people’s woes.
In Piasau, there are numerous long-standing land woes affecting thousands of squatters, bad drainage, increasing traffic congestions and the likes.
It is good to note that despite being labelled a giant-killer during the polls, Ling has not been carried away by pride or arrogance.
He has been very down-to-earth and humble, and has placed service to the people as his top priority.
Aspiring politicians, no matter from which political party, must understand this maturing mentality among urban Sarawakians that the people do not automatically accord respect and recognition to politicians anymore.
Politicians are expected to prove their worth, not demand for it as if it is due to them on a platter.
This realisation may have come reluctantly and perhaps even grudgingly, but nonetheless politicians are admitting to this.
The rakyat and the voters in urban Sarawak have matured. They are the masters now, not the politicians.
The political office is no longer a privileged platform where one can lord over the rakyat. It is an office where one has to serve the people and solve their problems.
If they fail to do that, the rakyat will boot them out. The political office belongs to the rakyat. It is not the property of the politician sitting in the office.
That is the stark reality. So politicians and aspiring politicians better take note — you are not the master anymore.

(本报美里9日讯）砂人联党主席兼卑尔骚支部主席拿督巴丁宜丹斯里陈康南医生今日劝请党员，在即将举行的中央和各个支部选举，候选人不要使用肮脏手段或对党员轻易许下承诺，从而导致混乱的内斗局面。
他今日接受记者访问时，不经意发出一声长叹，语重深长地指出，希望党员一定要以党的利益和前途为首要考量，而候选人也需要凭着真本事和真心为党前途去竞选。因为今日的人联党已经没有能力和本钱去承受内耗了！
他说，在即将举行的党选包括支部和中央选举，他已决定退位。但是，他不希望见到支部或是中央选举时，有候选人用交换条件来取得党员支持。
他敢言，人联党之前举行党选不论支部或中央选举，从来没有用交换条件胜出。
“候选人不能把夺得党主席职位视为最重要的终极目标。而作为党主席最终目标是要确保该政党能够在政府里发挥作用和提高服务人民的效率。”
“你必须要赢得人民的支持，而不是去操控党的运作。”
他续说，选择党领袖，究竟只是需要获得少数党员支持？还是需要获得人民的支持？这些党员必须慎重考量的。
他说，党领袖主要任务是令党强大。虽然排除异己可以增加个人的势力和力量，但是这将会削弱党的力量。

MIRI: Prominent businessman and philanthropist Hii King Chiong yesterday announced his decision to go for the
SUPP Piasau chairman post during branch elections next month.

The present chairman of SUPP Piasau, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan, announced he was stepping down shortly after he was defeated by a DAP political novice Alan Ling Sie Kiong during the April 16 state election.
Prior to the election, Dr Chan, who is also SUPP chairman, was holding the following portfolios – Deputy Chief Minister, Minister of Industrial Development, and Minister of Tourism and Heritage.
In a statement to party comrades and made available to the press, Hii said he was inspired by calls from loyal members and supporters that the party must be united and that urgent and speedy reforms were badly needed.
“The support from the various grassroots units,
from within and outside the party, has inspired my decision to contest for the chairmanship post. I seek to confront all difficulties with reinforced strength and collaboration with leaders of other party branches,” he said.
Hii, who is the group managing director of the Kingwood Group of Companies, and executive chairman of Fonsen Timber Sdn Bhd, is involved in diversified business activities including construction, timber, and plantation.

The chorus of support for him to helm SUPP Piasau gathered momentum in recent months.
On Sept 30, SUPP Piasau Youth chief Keith Chin declared his support for Hii to run for the chairman post during a press conference in Mega Hotel.
The branch’s deputy chairman is political secretary to the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Sebastian Ting, who was tipped to contest in the Miri constituency in the next general election.
Hii revealed that he was not jumping into the political fray empty handed. In fact, he said, he already had a detailed plan under his sleeve.
“I have a detailed plan to allow all levels of people – the elderly, the middle-aged, and the younger generation, to break free from the paternalistic way of doing things and to allow them (people) the freedom to make nominations and have the freedom to choose their own leaders,” he said.
Hii added that he relished facing difficulties ahead, and would work closely with party leaders in order to help rejuvenate the party with honour and integrity.
“Despite the harsh criticisms on the streets and from within that SUPP is on the verge of political bankruptcy, we, the younger generation, sees an earnest hope for revival. We will not bicker about the political circus that is happening within and outside our party,” he stressed. Hii made it clear that accusations hurled against the younger generation for being too aggressive in trying to wrest power would not break their beliefs that SUPP has “good, honest roots and ideals”.
The younger generation of leaders, he said, was very focused on restoring the party by returning authority to party members.
On the conundrum that some party leaders were against active participation of entrepreneurs in the party but at the same time welcomed big corporations to come in to provide financial aid, Hii said the younger generation viewed it as “a paradox”.
“We cannot deny that development and prosperity in any given place is always driven by the private sector. Likewise, it also applies to our party, and we have to foster a good relationship with entrepreneurs and respect their contributions to the society,” he reasoned.
SUPP, he said, must reform to win back the confidence of the voters, or face “disastrous consequences”.
Appealing to party members to allow him and the reform-centric team to be elected, he said their mission was to save the party and serve the people and society more effectively.
“We (SUPP) might have lost some battles, but we have not lost the war,” he pointed out.
With only Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and Datuk Lee Kim Shin representing the Chinese community in the State Cabinet, Hii said the party must strengthen its political participation, maintain good relations with all BN component parties, share political authority, and be dignified leaders with regards to the livelihood of the people, educational rights, and land matters.

许庆璋宣布角逐人联党卑尔骚支部主席。
（本报美里12日讯）美里商界闻人许庆璋今日郑重宣布，来届人联党美里区支部改选中，角逐卑尔骚支部主席一职，以团结党员、重整党务、匡正弊端、贴近民心、壮大组织、为国家社会尽一份心力。
美里人联党支部执委选举提名日定在11月14日，选举日则为11月20日。
许庆璋也特此发出文告，清楚道明本身角逐卑尔骚支部主席的意愿和目的。
“各位同志，我今日正式宣布角逐砂人联党美里卑尔骚支部主席职位。庆璋数月来接到许多党内外的基层、资深政团朋友鼓励，希望我出来竞选支部主席职位。”
让我感动的是，看到一些老党员亲身带病走到我的办公室，声泪俱下，诚心恳求党年轻的一代挺身而出，拯救人联党。我发现党员之间已不约而同的出现一股力量，促成忠心党员与支持者达成共识，决心携手从挫败中再站起来，重振党的威信。
党员们要党全面改革的意愿非常强烈，他们希望党意和民意互相结合。虽然我只是人联党普通党员，但不应该置身度外，袖手旁观，我决定与有共同理念的同志们共 赴时艰。但改革不能靠一个人的力量，假如我是其中一个能凝聚党的人，我愿意配合其它支部的党基层领袖，带领卑尔骚支部加入改革队伍，复兴人联党。
拟定改革复兴计划
他在文告中表示，已经拟定一个周详的党复兴计划，逐步进行改革。改革的方案包括党各支部的人力培训、经济资源、基层组织、党领导层的任期制及党务发展方针。
他强调，人联党必须强化参政理念，与国阵成员党维持良好关系，分享政权，当政又当家；对民生、教育、土地课题，党必须上下同心，无条件据理力争，绝不畏惧退缩。
政治是讲现实的，没有群众力量，就什么都不是。水能载舟，亦能覆舟。党领导的权力是基层党员所赋予的，党代议士在国阵里的多寡和党员团结的力度将影响党的地位和尊严。
不幸的是，党目前正处于劣势，地位和尊严逐渐流失，假如党内数十万党员不能振作，继续不负责的让党沉沦下去，那么我们这一代党员就是千古罪人了。
把权力交回给党员
“同志们，人联党必须全面改革，唯有改革，才能复兴。改革是我党做后的一个希望，我们应及时抓住这个机会，不能让它流失。我有信心人联党内还有许许多多爱党的人，他们没有退党，在黑夜里，正默默地等待着黎明的到来。”
“把选择党领袖的权力交回给全体党员吧！让老中青三代党员们摆脱家长式的安排，自由提名选举，重新作主，公平、公正的选出自己的领导层。人联党在创党的时 代，在我祖父辈时代，曾经历过血、汗、泪及生死洗礼，许多忠心老党员为了理想、族群、国家民主和开放，牺牲了自己宝贵的生命，甚至家破人亡。”
不向州选失败投降
这种惨痛的代价，我们老党员都付出了！难道现在遇到州选失败的一次挫折，作为后辈的党员们就丧志放弃了吗？
人联党创党以来，走过多少坎坷风雨路，但每次遇到困境时，都在党员及支持者的呵护之下，度过难关。今天人联党再次陷入低谷困境，有人认为是因为我们党领袖 脱离群众，违背了创党宗旨、与党意及民意渐行渐远。群众批评人联党失去自主权，是国阵政党的附庸小丑，不成气候，并对党的方向完全失去信心。
不再做“政治病夫”
大家要知道，人联党曾经是本州最强大的反对党，我们应该向我党老前辈们学习如何贴近民心，聆听民声。执政后，我们仍必须保有理性的监督机制，在国阵里白眼负责人及有建设性的反对党角色，应该争取的民声问题和国民权益，我们据理力争，不再做“政治病夫”。
普通老百姓及只是分子对党的一些批判是有根据的，他们严厉指责是爱党的表现。想想看，假如他们完全不在意人联党的所作所为，他们何必浪费口舌和百鬼的时间去分析和劝导？
有许多朋友劝我不要自找麻烦，因为他们认为人联党已经无可救药，他们很严厉的指责一些领袖完全没有诚意反省和改革的决心，他们说，人联党已经频临“政治破产”边缘。
我认为，破船还有几斤铁，人联党不坏，糟糕的是党领导者自己不争气，输了不反省，却怪选民不支持，州选后代现在还是原地踏步。一些党领导显然对重振党的计 划一筹莫展，也毫无诚意，甚至还搞许多小动作、拉亲信、结党派，企图在支部选举中挑拨离间，组织一些年轻人竞选党高职及破坏和污蔑别人争权夺利。这些领袖 的不负责任行为令党员们深感痛心。
与企业家保持关系
某些党领袖反对财团参与政党，却欢迎大公司资助政党。这种过桥抽板，不感恩的矛盾言论破坏了政治任务与企业家及财团之间的正当关系和互动。

为了地方的发展和繁荣，我们应该要与财团及企业家保持良好关系，并肯定他们对社会的贡献。

人联党已走过半个世纪，经历国家数个朝代政局更迭，早期从政者可以平步青云，但现在政治生态开始变化，在野党已掌握先机，以务实政见带动基层，抢先改革，在近几次选举中声势夺人，侵蚀了国阵地盘，甚至动摇了一向稳固的堡垒区。
人联党必须拥有一批勇于创新改革的党干部，带领党员从心改变，重新出发。党高层领袖不应该执迷不悟，为了保护自己的利益，仍然抱着“山头主义”心态，背后发号施令，向自己的帮派灌输地方性势力、籍贯情意结或挑拨党员、抹黑企业家与财团对立，引起种种负面情绪。
党领袖滥用籍贯课题，伤害了族群团结，这种现象在美里尤其明显。人联党对机关的猜疑迄今未能释怀和克服，许多有意服务的年轻人对此都深感无奈。
这些党领袖想尽办法，阻拦党内一些年轻人出来改革，这种自私行为已造成人联党领导曾青黄不接，接班人严重断层。党内领导接班机制重创是在人联党在州选中重挫的原因之一。
集体领导整装出发
416州选过了几个月，党内外还见不到一丝曙光！党做该领导曾不能再懵懵度日，得过且过。党的前景目前仍然一片漆黑。我们现在担心的是，面对即将来临的全国大选，党内一些党员已无法容忍党领袖“蜗牛式”，一再拖延的改革进程而自暴自弃，甚至投向敌对阵营。
政治分析家曾不客气的说，人联党若不及时改革，挽回选民信心，国会选举难逃“归零”之劫。
各位党同志，人联党已毫无本钱内斗，党员应该枪口一致对外，并做好准备，凝聚全体力量，集体领导哦啊，整装出发。
目前人联党华人州议员仅剩下拿督斯里黄顺舸和拿督李景胜二人，我们应全力做他们的后盾，让他们更有信心，更有尊严的为人民服务。
人联党受伤了，我郑重呼吁爱党的同志及朋友们，拿出勇气走到前台，一起救党吧！即便是一步一障碍，我们在所不惜，勇往直前。
我恳求全体党员给予黄顺舸及李景胜和所有支部改革队伍强而有力的支持，让各支部领导层顺利选出，并拥有足够能量凝聚党基层力量，为族群及社会做出有绩效的服务。

许庆璋宣布角逐人联党卑尔骚支部主席。
（本报美里12日讯）美里商界闻人许庆璋今日郑重宣布，来届人联党美里区支部改选中，角逐卑尔骚支部主席一职，以团结党员、重整党务、匡正弊端、贴近民心、壮大组织、为国家社会尽一份心力。
美里人联党支部执委选举提名日定在11月14日，选举日则为11月20日。
许庆璋也特此发出文告，清楚道明本身角逐卑尔骚支部主席的意愿和目的。
“各位同志，我今日正式宣布角逐砂人联党美里卑尔骚支部主席职位。庆璋数月来接到许多党内外的基层、资深政团朋友鼓励，希望我出来竞选支部主席职位。”
让我感动的是，看到一些老党员亲身带病走到我的办公室，声泪俱下，诚心恳求党年轻的一代挺身而出，拯救人联党。我发现党员之间已不约而同的出现一股力量，促成忠心党员与支持者达成共识，决心携手从挫败中再站起来，重振党的威信。
党员们要党全面改革的意愿非常强烈，他们希望党意和民意互相结合。虽然我只是人联党普通党员，但不应该置身度外，袖手旁观，我决定与有共同理念的同志们共 赴时艰。但改革不能靠一个人的力量，假如我是其中一个能凝聚党的人，我愿意配合其它支部的党基层领袖，带领卑尔骚支部加入改革队伍，复兴人联党。
拟定改革复兴计划
他在文告中表示，已经拟定一个周详的党复兴计划，逐步进行改革。改革的方案包括党各支部的人力培训、经济资源、基层组织、党领导层的任期制及党务发展方针。
他强调，人联党必须强化参政理念，与国阵成员党维持良好关系，分享政权，当政又当家；对民生、教育、土地课题，党必须上下同心，无条件据理力争，绝不畏惧退缩。
政治是讲现实的，没有群众力量，就什么都不是。水能载舟，亦能覆舟。党领导的权力是基层党员所赋予的，党代议士在国阵里的多寡和党员团结的力度将影响党的地位和尊严。
不幸的是，党目前正处于劣势，地位和尊严逐渐流失，假如党内数十万党员不能振作，继续不负责的让党沉沦下去，那么我们这一代党员就是千古罪人了。
把权力交回给党员
“同志们，人联党必须全面改革，唯有改革，才能复兴。改革是我党做后的一个希望，我们应及时抓住这个机会，不能让它流失。我有信心人联党内还有许许多多爱党的人，他们没有退党，在黑夜里，正默默地等待着黎明的到来。”
“把选择党领袖的权力交回给全体党员吧！让老中青三代党员们摆脱家长式的安排，自由提名选举，重新作主，公平、公正的选出自己的领导层。人联党在创党的时 代，在我祖父辈时代，曾经历过血、汗、泪及生死洗礼，许多忠心老党员为了理想、族群、国家民主和开放，牺牲了自己宝贵的生命，甚至家破人亡。”
不向州选失败投降
这种惨痛的代价，我们老党员都付出了！难道现在遇到州选失败的一次挫折，作为后辈的党员们就丧志放弃了吗？
人联党创党以来，走过多少坎坷风雨路，但每次遇到困境时，都在党员及支持者的呵护之下，度过难关。今天人联党再次陷入低谷困境，有人认为是因为我们党领袖 脱离群众，违背了创党宗旨、与党意及民意渐行渐远。群众批评人联党失去自主权，是国阵政党的附庸小丑，不成气候，并对党的方向完全失去信心。
不再做“政治病夫”
大家要知道，人联党曾经是本州最强大的反对党，我们应该向我党老前辈们学习如何贴近民心，聆听民声。执政后，我们仍必须保有理性的监督机制，在国阵里白眼负责人及有建设性的反对党角色，应该争取的民声问题和国民权益，我们据理力争，不再做“政治病夫”。
普通老百姓及只是分子对党的一些批判是有根据的，他们严厉指责是爱党的表现。想想看，假如他们完全不在意人联党的所作所为，他们何必浪费口舌和百鬼的时间去分析和劝导？
有许多朋友劝我不要自找麻烦，因为他们认为人联党已经无可救药，他们很严厉的指责一些领袖完全没有诚意反省和改革的决心，他们说，人联党已经频临“政治破产”边缘。
我认为，破船还有几斤铁，人联党不坏，糟糕的是党领导者自己不争气，输了不反省，却怪选民不支持，州选后代现在还是原地踏步。一些党领导显然对重振党的计 划一筹莫展，也毫无诚意，甚至还搞许多小动作、拉亲信、结党派，企图在支部选举中挑拨离间，组织一些年轻人竞选党高职及破坏和污蔑别人争权夺利。这些领袖 的不负责任行为令党员们深感痛心。
与企业家保持关系
某些党领袖反对财团参与政党，却欢迎大公司资助政党。这种过桥抽板，不感恩的矛盾言论破坏了政治任务与企业家及财团之间的正当关系和互动。

Kesan kekalahan SUPP di Piasau dan Pujut mula dirasai rakyat

SENADIN — Persatuan dan pertubuhan yang lazimnya mendapat peruntukan besar daripada wakil rakyat Barisan Nasional (BN) di Miri kini bimbang dengan kekurangan jumlah geran yang diterima berikutan kekalahan dua calonnya dalam Pilihan Raya Negeri April lalu.
Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan, bekas Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Piasau dan bekas Timbalan Ketua Menteri, tewas kepada calon Parti Tindakan Demokratik (DAP), Ling Sie Kiong manakala bekas ADUN Pujut, Andy Chia kalah kepada Fong Pau Teck, juga calon dari DAP.
Sebelum kekalahan ini, persatuan dan pertubuhan mendapat peruntukan besar daripada Parti Rakyat Bersatu Sarawak (SUPP) namun kini mereka perlu berpuas hati dengan peruntukan yang diterima walaupun jumlahnya kecil.
Menteri Muda Komunikasi, Lee Kim Shin berkata, pengagihan peruntukan kini berkurangan kerana hanya beliau dan Ahli Parlimen Miri, Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui yang tinggal untuk memohon peruntukan.
“Saya ada menerima aduan daripada pertubuhan dan persatuan yang bimbang mengenai peruntukan yang semakin berkurangan. Sekarang kerajaan melalui SUPP hanya dapat menyalurkan bantuan kepada dua wakil rakyat iaitu saya dan Datuk Seri Peter Chin, berbanding dulu empat orang wakil rakyat yang mana peruntukan lebih banyak,” katanya kepada media selepas sesi bertemu rakyat di pejabat SUPP Senadin hari ini.
Lee yang juga ADUN Senadin memberitahu, pengurangan dari segi pemberian geran itu tidak ketara semasa tahun pertama namun kesannya akan dirasai oleh pelbagai pihak empat tahun yang mendatang.
“Justeru saya berharap rakyat di Miri faham mengapa mereka mendapat geran yang sedikit. Saya harap pengundi selepas ini sedar dengan pilihan mereka,” ujarnya.
Dalam pada itu, Lee berjanji akan melakukan yang terbaik untuk memastikan semua pertubuhan dan persatuan khususnya badan kebajikan mendapat geran yang sewajarnya.
“Walaupun peruntukan berkurangan, namun persatuan dan pertubuhan kebajikan tetap diberi keutamaan dari segi pengagihan peruntukan,” katanya.
Terdahulu, Lee menerima aduan daripada Persatuan Bas Sekolah Miri yang bimbang mengenai nasib anak-anak miskin yang menggunakan bas mereka di mana tambang mereka dibiayai oleh SUPP.
“Dalam hal ini, saya minta agar pengusaha bas teruskan mengambil anak-anak tersebut dan biarkan SUPP yang tolong selesaikan pembayaran yang tertunggak khususnya ibu bapa yang miskin.”
Beliau turut beri jaminan akan membantu menyelesaikan yuran bas sekolah anak-anak dari keluarga miskin yang pernah mendapat bantuan di bawah Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan dan Andy Chia.

Penduduk di Kampung Api-Api, DUN Piasau hidup kegelapan

MIRI – Nama sahaja Kampung Api-api, namun sehingga kini penempatan setinggan yang terletak kira-kira 10 kilometer dari pusat bandar itu hidup dalam kegelapan kerana tiada bekalan elektrik.
Kebanyakan penduduk di situ menggunakan pelita minyak tanah selain generator pada waktu malam. Manakala untuk bekalan air paip, mereka terpaksa berkongsi satu meter air.
Selain tidak mempunyai bekalan elektrik, penempatan yang didiami lebih 2,000 penduduk berbilang kaum sejak 30 tahun lalu tidak mempunyai kemudahan asas seperti bekalan air bersih secara meter persendirian.
Bukan itu sahaja, kawasan yang didiami oleh masyarakat berbilang kaum majoriti Dayak dan Orang Ulu itu tidak mempunyai sistem pembuangan sampah yang sistematik, menyebabkan kawasan itu berbau busuk.
Tinjauan mendapati, penduduk lebih gemar membuang apa sahaja sampah termasuk botol, lampin pakai buang, sisa makanan, plastik termasuk najis ke dalam longkang dan sungai kecil yang terdapat di belakang rumah.
Iba Saba
Menurut penduduk di situ, kebanyakkan mereka sudah menetap di situ lebih 20 tahun namun sehingga kini belum ada usaha untuk mewujudkan bekalan air dan elektrik.
Isu berkenaan pernah diadukan kepada pihak berkenaan, namun sehingga kini tiada tindakan diambil.
Salah seorang penduduk kampung, Iba Saba, 32, berkata, mereka juga tidak mempunyai sistem pembuangan sisa kumbahan yang sistematik menyebabkan sungai kecil yang terdapat di situ turut dijadikan tempat membuang najis.
“Keadaan ini menyebabkan tempat kami berbau busuk dan kotor, namun kami sudah biasa,” katanya sambil menambah mereka tidak mampu untuk memiliki rumah sendiri.
Beliau berharap wakil rakyat yang dipilih bagi kawasan dapat membantu termasuk mencari langkah penyelesaian terbaik untuk membolehkan mereka menikmati kehidupan yang lebih selesa.

I was born, I grew up in Miri and I love Miri. Miri and Sarawak is the place where we do not care what race and religion you belong to or your background, Miri is the perfect example because 27 races can live together in peace and harmony. We can work and play together and this is Miri and it is important for Mirians to set the example of living together in unity.
I won't let anybody disturb that unity. We all love Miri. I love Miri. I was born, grew up in Miri and, for many years now, added him.
SUPP president and Deputy Chief Minister George Chan as 'father of Miri''s development' who managed to develop the oil city to surpass Sibu and become Sarawak's second largest city in 15 years.
Honesty say, I was amazed with his spirit of protecting & developing Miri. He might be old but through my observation he did really developed Miri , one of the example is Miri has been upgraded to City in year 2005.

I don't mind what people say about me as long as I did my job. This is Datuk's Lee motto. He is cool and steady. Never scare on things that happened surrounding him. What he want is to complete his duties and responsibilities as one of the Public Representative.
There are two things that people always admired him.
First,
1. The establishment of SJKC Tudan Miri
Datuk Lee said Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Tudan was just one of the many examples of SUPP's work all these years to provide more education facilities. Miri Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui, said the establishment of SJKC Tudan was the result of Lee's hardwork since he became the assemblyman for Senadin in 1996.
I believe the school had not only benefited Chinese children in the fast-growing constituency but had also opened up education opportunities for non-Chinese children in the area. Statistic had shown that about 50 per cent of the children in this school are Bumiputeras and this goes to show that Chinese education is well accepted by all here.
Not only benefited to children but provides job opportunities for teachers. Keep it up!

Datuk Lee Kim Shin as the district deputy chairman of Miri Red Crescent. He had contributed a lot to community through the red crescent activities.

The thing that I admired him the most are he is very sincere, caring and kind hearted. Besides, People says he loves to smile and easy going.
He told people, love and cares on your people with a caring heart, never critiscm and rude to people that surrounding you. Love your people no matter who is the person and never judge people.
Each year before enter the Traditional Chinese New Year Celebration. YB Andy and his group from SUPP Pujut Krokop DUN 64 will pay a visit to Miri Home for the Aged. They cooked delicious home-cooked for the residents of the Miri Home for the Aged and YB Andy gave the elders ‘angpows’ for Chinese New Year celebration season as well.
A 92’s year old of old woman said..’thank you all for caring for old people”
An appropriate slogan on the wall reads, “thank you for coming with a caring heart”.

"George Town"
MIRI: Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam, who is Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP) president, said he will do his best to retain the Piasau seat here.
"Miri is my hometown. I will defend it until I die. And if I die, I will rise from my grave to haunt anyone who disturbs the harmony of Miri," Dr Chan told the New Straits Times.
Dr Chan, who is also deputy chief minister, said the voters in Piasau were united and had been experiencing rapid progress.
"I do not mind people calling Miri a 'Georgetown' because George wants it to progress, to be in the forefront and to be a good example of a multiracial society.
"If the passion I have for Miri is a measure of my confidence, then I am very confident of winning again in Piasau," he said.
Chinese community leader Kapitan Yong Vui Seng said retaining the Piasau seat was crucial for SUPP as this would determine the future of the party's leadership.
He said a victory for Barisan Nasional and Dr Chan in Piasau would strengthen SUPP and ensure the party's longevity, especially after it lost eight seats in the 2006 state election -- six to DAP and one each to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and the Sarawak National Party.
"If SUPP and BN fail to retain Piasau, it would be a great loss to the community here as we will not continue to enjoy rapid development as we experience now.
"In the end, it is the people here who would be at a disadvantage," he said when met near here.
Yong said the Chinese voters in Miri, especially Piasau, should look back at what happened when people in Sibu and Kuching voted for opposition in the 2006 state election.
"If SUPP is defeated in Piasau, it would mean that the Chinese community will lose one of its senior representatives in the state government. This is a political reality."
Two of Dr Chan's predecessors had lost in previous state elections.
The second SUPP president, Tan Sri Stephen Yong, failed to defend the Kuching parliamentary seat in 1990, while his successor, Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai, suffered the same fate in Bukit Assek in the 1996 state election.
Dr Chan, the fourth party president, made his first political appearance in 1982 when he contested the Lambir parliamentary seat and won a five-cornered fight with 17,898 votes, after 17 years of being a medical doctor.
A year later in 1983, he contested the state seat of Miri and won uncontested. In 1987, he retained Miri with a majority of 8,273 votes, 64.76 per cent of the total votes.
In the 1991 state election, Dr Chan contested the renamed constituency of Piasau, where he won with a 9,063 vote-majority. He defended Piasau in 1996 and won with a 5,191 vote-majority. He then took over the party presidency from Wong.
In the 2001 state election, Dr Chan received a 7,673 vote-majority, 79.4 per cent of the total votes.
However, Dr Chan's majority dropped in the 2006 state election to 3,918, where he garnered 6,573 votes compared with PKR Miri chief Michael Teo's 2,655 votes.
According to the electoral roll as of March 26 this year, there are 16,600 registered voters in Piasau -- 64 per cent are Chinese, Malay/Melanau (20 per cent), Iban (14 per cent) and others (two per cent).
Miri is seen as the stronghold of SUPP, after the party defended all its three Chinese-majority seats -- Piasau, Pujut and Senadin -- in the 2006 state election. This was in contrast to Kuching, where SUPP lost four out of its five predominantly-Chinese seats.
DAP has named Ling Sie Kiong, a 29-year-old pharmacist for Piasau, as its candidate.
The full list of candidates will be known at the end of tomorrow's nomination process.
