When there is factional fight within a political party the separate groups will use whatever ways or methods justs to score points and also political mileage. SUPP’s Dayak YBs are now at each other throats and this is not healthy for the party as after a disastrous outing won only 6 out of 19 seats at the last state elections the party needs more than ever to consolidate itself.

The infighting needs to stop or call for a cease-fire as the Pakatan coalition is already rubbing their hands and the lasts we heard hmm is even composing a song for SUPP and its called,” Ooh ,Bising Saja lah…”

Moreover it is fact that when one is faced with problems the mind will be clouded and its no different for the political boys/party. Too much at stake says an observer thats why they cannot justs let go and forget the humiliating pain of defeat at branch level elections for some. It’s already entrenched in their minds of their supporters” If we cannot have it theyalso musts not have it.”

One SUPP faction has 6 AdUNS plus 1 MP while the other faction has 4 MPs plus the party headquarters,youth and wanita wings. The ROS will go over the documentations and will be the arbitrator. The ROS will have personal interviews plus both factional interviews.

They will write their reports and present it to the Director/officials within ROS to scrutinize.The final decision will only be made after consultation with the Minister in charge as this is very much a Political case.

The President of SUPP Peter Chin speaking to audie61 has singlemindedly reminded everyone to throw their weight behind the party and ease itself to be accepted as a party for everyone. The factional fights should stop and SUPP members musts get behind the party in the next GE13. When and only if the members in SUPP are united the opposition will find it tough. The party has suffered as there is never ending squabbles not only on major issues but also petty and personal issues.

He vows to ensure the party will be in good hands after serving his term of the Presidency. He has vouched to only stay for 3 years and when he calls it a day he hopes the party will be back to its glorious self.

At the moment the dayak YBs are at each others throat and this should stop he says. It is no good for the BN coalition and he said he has something to offer the Chinese and dayak communities as a whole. Everyone within the partysphere will not be left out and this spat in the public gallery should stop.

KUCHING: SUPP newly elected deputy president Datuk Richard Riot refused to be drawn into a discussion on a resolution adopted a t the party’s recent triennial delegates conference which stipulates that the secretary-general would take over the helm if the president stepped down or was unable to continue.

That resolution effectively removed any chance of Riot becoming president, making his achievement of being elected the party’s first Bumiputera deputy president rather hollow.

Many view his position in the party as mere window dressing to assuage the bumiputera members.

Riot, who is also Deputy Foreign Minister, said he did not care what post he was holding in the party as his main focus now was to be re-nominated by Barisan Nasional (BN) to defend the Serian parliamentary seat.

Riot, the five-term MP, said this yesterday when told that there were murmurs on the ground that he had been played out by the party and used as a pawn to counter allegations that the new leadership led by Datuk Seri Peter Chin had sidelined Bumiputera members in its top posts line-up.

“My focus now is to get re-nominated by BN to defend Serian, and I will not deviate from that direction.”

When asked if he thought the deputy president post is just a window dressing, Riot said: “The post is secondary.”

Meanwhile, Engkilili asemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa said the Registrar of Societies (ROS) should look into the resolution which elevated the secretary-general into the second most powerful position ahead of the deputy president.

When asked on the disappointment among party Bumiputera members that the constitution was changed to ensure no Bumiputera member would lead the party, Dr Rayong said it was not unexpected since Riot was a ‘lone ranger’, being the only Dayak member in Chin’s central committee line-up.

Dr Rayong said he and four other state assemblymen namely Datuk Francis Harden Hollis (Simanggang), Datuk Lee Kim Shin (Senadin), Dr Jerip Susil (Bengoh) and Ranum Mina (Opar) and MP Datuk Tiong Thai King (Lanang) were still siding SUPP Sibu branch chairman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

Dr Rayong also claimed that Riot initially was with Wong but changed his mind at the eleventh hour before the TDC.

Riot was once a member of the now defunct Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) but joined SUPP in 1993.

Another SUPP Bumiputera assemblyman Dr Jerip Susil said Riot should have known he would never be given any real power in the party, saying “All along it is like that and if he does not know, he is naive.”

Dr Jerip added that by accepting the deputy president post Riot had betrayed Bumiputera members in SUPP as the new leadership was merely making use of him as a window dressing.

人聯總部疑遭縱火‧派系鬥爭引起揣測

（砂拉越‧古晉13日訊）砂人聯黨總部於今日凌晨3時許疑遭縱火，中央常務委員會會議室遭大火燒得面目全非。

由於人聯黨剛舉行大會和黨選，而期間曾爆發派系之爭，因此黨總部突然失火，引起揣測和議論紛紛。

離奇發生大火的是人聯黨總部中央常務委員會會議室，瞬間被燒毀。這是中央常委會開會的地方。

砂人聯黨卸任秘書長拿督沈慶輝及新任秘書長沈桂賢在聞訊巡視現場後異口同聲表示，他們不排除有人縱火，要求警方深入調查，同時嚴厲譴責涉案者。

人聯黨高層也要求警方徹查現場是否有遺留下任何可疑的易燃物。

警方消拯局徹查

古晉警區主任文國強助理警察總監說，警方鑒證組與消拯局會徹查人聯黨總部火災事件。

他說，警方還在等待進一步報告，再評論此案是否為蓄意縱火。

職員曾接恐嚇電話

消息指出，黨選期間，該黨總部組織處職員曾接恐嚇電話，對方聲稱要縱火燒毀組織處辦事處。有關職員過後曾向警方備案。

根據該黨總部工作的資訊工藝處職員透露，會議室內並沒有安裝任何電腦器材連線，因此，起火原因初步排除是電腦的電線短路所引起。

據瞭解，只有小部份的文件被燒毀，火勢幸好未殃及總部主要的職員辦事處，如組織處、宣教處、青年團辦事處、婦女組辦事處、中央執行辦事處及圖書館等。

電眼沒錄下可疑鏡頭

雖然人聯黨總部主要辦事處有安裝閉路電視，但該黨檢查後發現，閉路電視沒有錄下任何可疑的鏡頭。

人聯黨總部之前曾多次發生偷竊案件，該黨領導層隨後決定安裝閉路電視。

過去，該黨總部曾發生有人進入偷取鐵製水溝蓋的事件。

Fire destroys SUPP’s CWC meeting room

KUCHING: Pre-dawn fire destroys SUPP’s CWC meeting room.

The meeting room of SUPP’s Central Working Committee (CWC) at the party’s headquarters in Jalan Ong Kee Hui was razed in a pre-dawn fire yesterday.

The incident came to light when the Fire and Rescue Services Department received a distress call at 3.51am, prompting two engines from the Padungan station to be dispatched to the scene.

The flames were eventually brought under control at 4.38am, and fully extinguished at 5.10am.

SUPP secretary-general Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian and his predecessor Datuk Sim Kheng Hui were among the first to reach the scene after being notified of the incident.

Commenting on the fire, Kheng Hui said although he would leave it to investigators to determine the cause of the fire, he firmly believed it was an act of arson by irresponsible parties.

“I hope the police will speed up their investigation and arrest the culprits as I believe this (the fire) is an act of arson,” he said.

The former party secretary-general added that the fire destroyed the entire CWC meeting room, along with ‘some’ important documents.

Meanwhile, a lone elderly guard manning the security booth at the entrance of the headquarters said he did not realise a fire had broken out until police patrolmen and firemen started arriving at the scene.

Investigators were present later in the morning to collect samples and other evidence from the scene for further investigation.

KUCHING: A fire at the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) headquarters early this morning caused extensive damage to the party’s meeting room, which is located at the back of the building.

Eyewitnesses called the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) at 3.51am after seeing smoke and firefighters managed to put out the fire by 5.10am.

As of 12pm, Bomba had yet to establish the cause of the fire.

New SUPP secretary-general Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian was among the first to arrive at the scene.

When contacted, former secretary-general Datuk Sim Kheng Hui told reporters he believed the fire was not accidental, but would leave it to the police to investigate.

Former deputy secretary-general Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said if the fire was deliberately set, he condemned such an act of arson.

Newly-elected SUPP president Datuk Seri Peter Chin is expected to visit the headquarters around 6pm today to inspect the extent of the damage.

SUPP held its Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) over the weekend.

A faction led by Wong had boycotted the TDC citing irregularities and procedural impropriety at branch-level elections.

The Registrar of Societies (ROS) is investigating.

26 Nov, Miri – Kehangatan Sabtu ditingkatkan dengan berlangsungnya Pertandingan Ucapan Humor dan Penilaian Ucapan untuk ahli Kelab Pidato Toastmasters Miri. Jennifer Hii memenangi tempat pertama dalam Pertandingan Ucapan Humor manakala Taqiuddin menjuarai Pertandingan Penilaian Ucapan.

Diadakan di tempat kelab biasa mengadakan perjumpaan iaitu Bangunan Persatuan Melayu Miri, pertandingan ini adalah untuk ahli berlatih memberikan ucapan di hadapan pendengar lain, selain pendengar biasa. Ustaz Amin Wahid mendapat tempat kedua dan Taqiuddin di tempat ketiga untuk Pertandingan Ucapan Humor. Dalam kategori Penilaian Ucapan pula, Jennifer Hii memperolehi tempat kedua dan diikuti Ustaz Amin Wahid.

Memburu kejuaraan bukanlah perkara utama, tetapi meningkatkan keyakinan diri serta jati diri dikalangan ahli kelab samada sebagai peserta ataupun ahli jawatankuasa pertandingan. Pertandingan ini juga mengukuhkan tali silaturahim diantara kelab lain seperti Miri Toastmasters Club yang datang untuk membantu serta memberi sokongan.

‘Election first step towards party’s transformation’

KUCHING: The election for Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president and other top posts is the first step towards the transformation of the party.

SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sim Kheng Hui stressed that the party must carry out its election at the Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) rather than follow the tradition of proposing a pre-arranged list for the delegates to endorse.

“Having a party election is the first step towards transformation. It must be done.

“There might be problems cropping up which we will try to solve along the way,” said Sim.

He said besides the election of new office bearers, the delegates would also decide on two main proposals to change the party’s constitution.

“The first being the proposal to change or refine our party constitution to allow a smooth election of office bearers.

“And we will also propose that there be a direct election on important office posts such as that of the president.

“Furthermore, we want to amend the constitutions to limit the tenure of SUPP ministers and office bearers to two or three terms,” added Sim.

He said this would be the first time the party would experience a major change in its constitutions since its establishment in 1959.

Sim added that as the secretary-general, he would try to ensure that the TDC would be carried out as scheduled amid the requests to postpone it to a later date.

“Our constitution does not provide us with the option to postpone it to next year.

“It must be carried out within this year.” added Sim.

Dr Chan will not mediate despite being tasked by Najib, expects ROS green light for TDC

KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan said he will not mediate between the party’s two presidential candidates to avert an election for the president’s post at the TDC this weekend.

Instead, he advised the delegates to vote for the candidate who could better transform the party and hoped that the best man wins.

The two heavyweights who are vying for the top post are deputy secretary general and Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and organising secretary and Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Peter Chin.

Last week, Dr Chan was quoted as saying that he had been tasked by the Prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to mediate between the two camps to avoid further split in the party.

“Let us now do more and talk less to regain SUPP’s lost ground,” Dr Chan told The Borneo Post here yesterday.

On the possibility of the the Registrar of Societies (ROS) stopping the party’s triennial delegates conference (TDC) this weekend, Dr Chan is confident it would not happen despite the ROS having received complaints from some SUPP members on election irregularities at several party branches. The former deputy chief minister believed that the registrar would not take any action as the complaints were just “a misunderstanding that would not affect the TDC”.

“I have not seen the copy of the ROS letter but the misunderstanding arises due to the fact that this is the first time SUPP will hold an election for its top positions. The problems that were brought up of late are just small cases which can be settled internally,” said Dr Chan when contacted yesterday.

He was responding to a media report that SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sim Kheng Hui confirmed on Monday that he had received a letter from the ROS last week pertaining to complaints on the election irregularities.

Likening the party election to a project tendering process, Dr Chan stressed that it was normally “those who did not receive the project” that would complain.

“Of course, it is normal to have certain quarters making complaints,” he explained, adding that the dissatisfaction was lodged by only a few branches.

When asked how many delegates would be at the TDC, he disclosed that they would be around 600, and if observers and workers were to be included, the number of members involved would be about 1,000.

On the election, Dr Chan advised delegates to vote wisely for the sake of the party.

Meanwhile, according to press reports yesterday, Sim disclosed that ROS had advised the branches to conduct their elections in accordance with the party constitution.

He was said to have made the remarks at SUPP headquarters here before the party held its central election committee meeting Sunday.

Sim also kept mum on the number of complaints or reports that had been lodged with the ROS, adding that he was not informed when the complaints were made.

Efforts to get information from ROS Kuala Lumpur on the controversies surrounding SUPP as of yesterday were futile.
