Villagers’ request will be looked into, says Dr Chan

MIRI: The state government will look into the proposal from Kampung Wireless villagers before making any decision to preserve and turn the riverine settlement into a cultural village.

The proposal was made by the villagers through Kampung Wireless sub-branch of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) during ‘With the Leaders’ session held at the village yesterday.

Located at the fringe of city centre, they felt that the village by the river having potential due to it unique setting and activities.

They aspire to be involved in tourism development activities which provide them with extra income through hospitality services such as homestay and sale of handicraft or local cuisines to supplement their economy.

Piasau incumbent Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan who was the guest of honour agreed with the proposal and will promised to look into the matter thoroughly.

In this context, Dr Chan reminded the residents should ensure that the village must maintain its cleanliness while at the same time preserve the cultural and natural aspects.

He also urged the people to continue supporting and putting their trust in the government under Barisan Nasional.

Also present were Senadin and Pujut incumbents Datuk Lee Kim Shin and Andy Chia respectively.

During the gathering, Dr Chan presented two sets of wheelchair to Aisah Aman and Ruteh Ramli from the state government under its ‘Loving Touch’ programme.
